Vegas Elopement Mistakes: What Most Couples Forget (And How to Avoid Them!)

Eloping in Las Vegas sounds simple — and it can be! ✨ But even in the “Wedding Capital of the World,” there are a few common pitfalls couples run into that can add stress or even throw off their big day.

In Episode 6 of Your Vegas Elopement, I’m sharing the most common mistakes I see couples make when planning their Vegas elopement — and more importantly, how to avoid them so your day is smooth, stress-free, and unforgettable.

Mistake #1: Forgetting the Marriage License

You can have the most gorgeous venue, the perfect outfits, and a photographer ready to go — but without a marriage license, you’re not legally married.

How to avoid it:

Get your marriage license from the Clark County Marriage License Bureau before your ceremony. Fill out the online pre-application to save time, and remember to bring valid photo ID and the $102 fee.

Mistake #2: Not Booking Vendors in Advance

Vegas has a reputation for last-minute weddings, but the best vendors — chapels, photographers, florists — often get booked months ahead.

How to avoid it:

Secure your dream vendors early, especially if you’re eloping on a popular date (think 2/22, Valentine’s Day, or New Year’s Eve).

Mistake #3: Skipping a Timeline

Vegas weddings move fast, but without a timeline, you might feel rushed or miss out on experiences you wanted.

How to avoid it:

Plan your day hour-by-hour, including time for photos, travel between locations, and a celebratory dinner. Even if you keep it flexible, having a framework makes a big difference.

Mistake #4: Ignoring the Weather

Vegas is sunny year-round, but temperatures can swing from scorching summer heat to chilly desert nights.

How to avoid it:

Check the forecast, plan for shade or air-conditioning in summer, and bring layers for evening or winter ceremonies.

Mistake #5: Overlooking the Little Details

From forgetting rings to leaving vows at the hotel, small details can cause last-minute stress.

How to avoid it:

Pack a “wedding day kit” with rings, vows, touch-up makeup, a phone charger, and bottled water — and keep it with you.

Why Preparation Makes All the Difference

The beauty of a Vegas elopement is that it’s simple — but simple doesn’t mean unplanned. With a little foresight, you can avoid the common mistakes and focus on the fun: marrying your person in one of the most exciting cities in the world.
